The Foreign Ministry spokesman, Lin Jian, declared in a press conference that, through the manipulation of social media, Washington discredits the image of other countries and China firmly opposes this.

An investigation published by Reuters revealed that the U.S. Department of Defense launched a secret online propaganda operation against China during the COVID-19 pandemic.

According to reports, Washington created fake accounts and posted them on social media to defame the safety and efficacy of Chinese vaccines, which would lead to a decline in China’s influence in Southeast Asia and beyond.

Recent reports prove once again that the United States spreads false information, poisons the public opinion environment, and tarnishes the image of other countries by manipulating social media. This is its constant, and China firmly opposes it, the Foreign Ministry spokesman said in this regard.

Lin stressed that the United States not only invented and spread false information about vaccines; it also discredited the popular “One Belt, One Road” initiative and spread rumors about China’s overcapacity in the manufacture of new energy vehicles, which are in strong supply and demand. The functionary warned that the international community should keep its eyes open and be aware of this behavior of the northern nation.

An important country must act like an important country. We hope that the United States can correct its mentality, assume its responsibilities, and stop inventing and spreading false information against other countries, the spokesman added.
